Collection consists of six poems and two letters written by writer and folklorist, Roy Bedichek for Mary Bland Millspaugh, grandmother of Lucy Hunter Washburne and Nancy Hunter Beck. Poems include one with explanatory endnotes, a sonnet (to M.B.M.), one titled Three Pictures and three others written for Mary Bland Millspaugh (circa 1906-1908). Letters include one written on Deming, New Mexico Chamber of Commerce letterhead (April 1910) and one written on University of Texas at Austin letterhead (February 1918).

Roy Bedichek was born in 1878 in Illinois but moved to Texas as a child. After graduating from the University of Texas, he worked as a reporter, teacher, and editor and as secretary of various organizations before becoming associated with the University Interscholastic League in 1917 where he remained as director until 1948. He was an avid amateur naturalist and began to write about his interests in 1946. He completed four books before his death in 1959. From the description of Bedic...
